Century High School Outreach Music Program

Spring session is the same as Fall but with new music and a new theme. CHOMP is still on Thursdays and runs from 6:30-8:40, starting the first Thursday in March and ending the second or third Thursday in May. There is some changing during this session because some kids who felt that last session the beginner music was not that much of a challenge tend to change to the advanced band.
Each session is divided up into sectional time and full band time. Sectionals time is where students who all play the same instrument come together and get help from a professional who plays the same instrument. Full band time is when the students will all meet in the band room and rehearse with the band directors. The beginner band meets first while the advanced band kids are in sectionals and then half way through they swich.

Over the Years
CHOMP has been going on for 20 years. Every session new songs are added to the music library. Some of these songs have become favorites and are some how integrated into each new theme. These past two themes have been about the past twenty years and celebrating the programs long music history. One aspect of our program that is unique is that we have high school volunteers from the band help out during both sessions. This way students get to make connectons with not only their peers but with upper classman that they will be going to school with.
Fall session
Fall session is the first CHOMP session of the year. It runs every Thursday from 6:30 - 8:40, starting the first Thursday in November and ending the second or third Thursday in January. During this session there are two bands. The beginner band and the advanced band. Kids in 5th-6th grade are in the beginner band and 7th-8th graders are in the advanced band. All the music chosen fits with in each bands ability.
